Schoolhouse Rock Music Festivals Blend the Past and the Present

Salt-N-Pepa shaking things up at Fall Festival.

Hofstra’s second annual Fall Festival and first Winter Blast celebration brought together students and alumni for af ternoons filled with music, food, car nival-type games, and other attractions.

Fall Festival, held September 23-25, 2011, featured a parade of student floats, followed by the Vibe Live carnival and concer t, featuring Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Salt-N-Pepa, Taking Back Sunday and Rick Ross. Firewor ks by Grucci and comedy by Louis C.K. brought the exciting weekend to a close.

Winter Blast, February 3-5, 2012, brought a Mardi Gras celebration to the David S. Mack Physical Education Center and Sports and Exhibition Complex. There was a Pre La Fete with indoor rides, food and other ac tivities. Alumni Hoops Fest and Hofstra Men’s Basketball vs. Georgia State University got the crowd cheering and ready for Mardival featuring Olivia from VH1’s Love and Hip Hop, and per formances by Hofstra’s Imani Dance Ensemble, the Sugartone Brass Band and rapper Fat Joe.
